Learning how to fit long riding boots can help you find a well-fitted pair that offer comfort, smart style and support in the saddle.
When correctly fitted, horse riding boots can be positive for comfort and performance as they can help aid your balance, support your stability and improve your position. So you can find the perfect fit, our handy fitting guide explains how to measure for riding boots.
Step 1: Choose your size
The Moretta collection includes a great range of tall riding boots that come with a foot size that runs true to size.
To know which size riding boots to get, you’ll need your standard UK or European foot size and our Moretta boot size guide.
Step 2: Check your height size
Next, you need to determine which riding boot height you need by measuring the height of your leg.
To do this, sit on a chair with your feet flat on the ground and your legs at a 90-degree angle. Then, using a measuring tape, measure from the floor to the back of the knee and note the height measurement.
Step 3: Measure your calf
Once you’ve checked your height measurement, you can then measure your calf to find out which calf size you need for riding boots.
Measure your calf by wrapping the measuring tape around the widest part of your calf, while keeping your feet flat on the ground and your legs at a 90-degree angle.
Top tip: To find the perfect fit for horse riding, remember to wear your riding legwear and socks when measuring your leg.

Frequently asked riding boot questions
How to break in leather riding boots
Breaking in new leather riding boots is the process of shaping the boots to your leg to achieve a comfortable fit. To break in your new riding boots, wear the boots for a short amount of time around the house. This will help soften the leather and start to shape the boots to your leg.
Then, gradually build up the length of time the boots are worn for and start to wear them for a few hours outside. Once the boots have a close but comfortable feel and any pressure points are gone, your boots are broken in and ready to be worn for full lengths of time.
How to look after leather riding boots
Cleaning and conditioning leather riding boots regularly can help extend their life and keep them looking clean. After each ride, we recommend using a soft, damp cloth to clean and remove any sand, dirt and mud from your riding boots. Then, at least once a month, your ridings boots should be cleaned and conditioned with leather boot care products.
